Hi there, the last example in the video is:
Je donne une pomme à Paul.
Would the replacement with lui be:
Je lui donne une pomme
What if I wanted to replace the une pomme with la, what would the word order be?
Merci!
Hi, why is “Se casser la main” “To break one's arm” when main = hand, and bras = arm? Is this an example of a non-literal phrase?
The ne explétif is always optional. In everyday speech it is a rarity, for sure, but even in writing it is optional. The omission of a ne explétif never results in incorrect grammar, and Le bon usage is replete with such examples taken from writers of the highest caliber, including a Nobel laureate in literature (Colette) and a member of the Académie française (Montherlant). Nevertheless kwiziq quizzes regard the omission of the ne explétif as an error. This is misleading.
Hello,
The lesson says that prendre and its derivatives take avoir as an auxiliary verb, including se méprendre. My understanding from previous lessons is that reflexive verbs takes être as the auxiliary. Can you please clarify? Thanks!
Maren
Bonjour Madame Cécile !
While attempting a kwiz ,I was provided with the following sentence ->
Les enfants ont rangé les cadeaux _________ sapin de Noël .
The answer marked correct was -> au pied du (at the foot of)
However, I would like to ask whether the options - “au dessous du / autour du” are correct ?
Just wanted to convey a small request-
Whenever, you feel free and comfortable, kindly help me ( as you always have done) with my queries which I posted lately as follow-ups .
Merci encore !
Je vous souhaite une bonne journée !
This is soooo complicated — you can see how many questions you have gotten — could you please move this to a higher level? Personally I don't think it fits the CEFR definition of this level..
Can someone confirm the rule? Merci!
With compound verbs and dual-verb constructions, the first and second word of most* negative pronouns surround the conjugated (first) verb. The exceptions: Personne and aucun place ne in front of the conjugated verb and the second word after the main verb.
Par exemple: Je n'ai vu personne hier. (I saw no one yesterday.)
Hi, what if I want to use a proper noun for a place, such as a restaurant name?
For example, "I am eating at Pizza Hut."
Thanks!
For the example elle y repond, does this mean it's wrong to say elle le repond? Or elle la repond?
Thanks in advance.
