"les maisons grises en pierre de taille parfaitement restaurées sont surmontées par une grande église ".
Why is "surmontées" the only option suggested? Why not "dominées" ?
And why is "surmontées" appropriate at all? The dictionaries I consulted do not give "overlooked" as one of its meanings. Most are related to "overcome". The closest is to "sit on top of" which is not the relation of a church to its neighbouring houses.
