If you are asking someone their nationality, it is obvious that you do not know the person. In which case, wouldn't the question be informal in any situation?
is it [ju suisanglez] or [ju sui anglez]? why?
I find the questions which ask things like "If I say "Tu es français.", who am I speaking to: Lucie or Hugo?" quite frustrating, because the gendering of names isn't fixed. According to https://madame.lefigaro.fr/prenoms/prenom/garcon/lucie, Lucie, whilst predominantely feminine, has been a mixed name for over a century.
It might be helpful to add a hint to these kinds of questions that says "Hugo is male, Lucie is female".I selected nationality with Capital letter, but it says I selected lower case
How come there is elision for "Je suis australien" but no elision for "Je suis australienne"?
Hi,
how do we know when a nationality used in a sentence is an adjective or a noun?
thank you
If I fill up a form with my nationality –
Example one: nationalité: autricien
Example two: nationalité: autricienne
I am a male Austrian, but I fill up with the feminine word 'nationalité' that agrees with the feminine adjective 'autricienne' but I don't know which example is correct.
Please tell me which example is appropriate for a male Austrian nationality. Thank you.
HI,
I was wondering I took the test and the question asked me if je suis professeur is Leon or Marie and I put Leon cause it's a masc ending but was marked wrong? Then the next question was je suis acteur and select Michael or Catherine or both of them and when I chose both of them it was marked wrong and said I should have picked Michael!
So why is the word acteur marked for masculine but the professeur is not?
Thanks
Nicole
HI,
