In the sentence 'plus on parle le français dans un pays, plus on y vend de produits français' why is it 'de' and not 'des' ?

Why was my answer: " Je suis en retard cinq minutes"

marked wrong and the only correct answer was "J'ai cinq minutes de retard".

I thought that there were two ways to say "I was 5 minutes late"

Not sure if this is intended as a contrast, but (ne) sounds like it has an edit attempt, while still being clearly heard and fully pronounced.

Are the baby names inherently masculine, or do they have female counterparts too, such as un chiot --> une chiotte; un chaton --> une chatonne etc?

My dictionary gave me two choices: de plus and en plus.  Qui plus est was not even a choice.  I always seem to make the wrong choice.  Can someone explain the nuances of the translation of besides?

Je pourrais certainement OBTENIR UN  rendez-vous. BUT Je pourrais certainement PRENDRE rendez-vous. ??  No article with prendre.
