In the A1 writing challenge "Learning the guitar" the question

"because I find that it's a soothing instrument"

suggests the answer

"car je trouve cet instrument apaisant."

which I can see is very elegant but why is my answer incorrect:

"car je la trouve d'être un instrument apaisant"

I can find other examples on the web of similar usage such this:

"...que nous avons trouvé d'être un trait distinctif..."

I was taught (in both English-taught French classes and by French-speaking people) that the use of 'on' for 'we' was very colloquial and borderline bad grammar. I was baffled by the construction of the sentence using 'we' in English. I'm annoyed to be classified as 'lower intermediate' when I am considerably more advanced than that, even if I'm out of practice. I need to practice, but won't get much if I'm getting questions at this level and being challenged only by a confusing usage.

"je trouve difficile de m'adapter" couldn't  " j'ai du mal à m'adapter" be used: 

Also "se confondre" used for "get oneself into a muddle".

I wasn’t phased by the speed of this dictation per say, but I missed out on a couple of words due to the liaison in spoken French and not fully understanding what was being said. If i’d thought more about the English translation i’d have got one of them. I think it’s beneficial to hear the language spoken at normal speed by a native speaker, it sharpens the ear.

Shouldn't the phrase "meme si je sais que c'est le repas le plus important de la journee" be "meme si je sais qu'il est le repas le plus important de la journee" because we are referring to something specific? (breakfast)

Il va au Havre.= He's going to Le Havre. The place name start with 'h" so as per the rule infront of vowel or h we will use l'

But here it is à + le = au
