Why does verb "faiblissent" agree with "bougies" and not "la lumière? La lumière des bougies"?

Hi Laura,
i have checked the Kwiz and it is correct -
La lumière des bougies faiblit après quelque temps = The candle light weakens after a while
It doesn't agree with bougies but with lumière which is correct.
