In a kwiz, the question was fill in the blank:
Vous vous souvenez des îles Cyclades. = Vous ________ îles Cyclades.
I wrote rappelez. I understand that it should have been VOUS rappelez, but why vous rappelez DE? I am really struggling with this one!
rappeler vs souvenir

rappeler vs souvenir
This question relates to:French lesson "Se souvenir de/Se rappeler (de) = To remember something in French"
Asked 3 years ago
Hi Virginia,
The answers accepted are -
Vous vous rappelez des îles Cyclades ?
or
Vous vous rappelez les îles Cyclades ?
Because you can either use
se rappeler de quelque chose ----> vous vous rappelez (de +les =) des îles Cyclades
se rappeler quelque chose ----> vous vous rappelez les îles Cyclades
As you will see, the de is in brackets but you have to have 'les' or 'des' in your answer.
Hope this helps!

Hi Virginia,
Se souvenir de --> se rappeler (de)
Vous vous rappelez (de les) des Îles Cyclades
I would have expected it to read des Îles Cyclades where des is de les not just de as you have posted.
"You reminded yourselves of the Cyclades islands"
There may be an error if only "de" is required after rappelez.
Jim
