Is the above question an acceptable translation of "What do you think?"

Having double-checked with French people, 
Que penses-tu? is accepted in everyday language for the more grammatically correct -
Que penses-tu de ceci/cela?
or 
Qu'en penses-tu?
You could say correctly :
A quoi penses-tu?
for 
What are you thinking of?

It's penser de, so I think it would have to be "Qu'en penses-tu?".

@Alan: It seems that one can also "just think" without thinking de qqc. Therefore the plain que penses-tu is also correct.

Que penses-tu de cette proposition? -- What do you think of that proposition?
Qu'en penses-tu. -- What do you think (of that)?

Que penses-tu maintenant? -- What are you thinking now?
Que penses-tu. -- What do you think.

I don't agree, because "what do you think?" never means "what are you thinking?", it can only mean "what do you think about it?"

Possibly "que penses-tu?" could be a translation of "what are you thinking?", although I'm doubtful.
