Je me suis passé la fantaisie d’écrire un roman.

(Histoire de ma vie) I have the desire to write a novel or I have no more the desire to write a novel. What means : se passer qchose?

Hi Bill,

I am not sure if this is from one of our exercises but it is an interesting use of 'se passer' so thank you.

Se passer la fantaisie de faire quelque chose = satisfaire un caprice

I would say the English might be to indulge a fancy ? here,  to write a novel.

Hope this helps!

Google Translate renders it as "I gave up the fantasy of writing a novel."
