'By the time my father succeeded' is translated as 'le temps que mon père réussisse'.

Could it also be 'le temps que mon père ait réussi'?

If so, are there stylistic considerations why you should chose one rather than the other?

Slightly better, but still "no cigar"  --  Some of the problems are vocabulary, but others are apparently confusion re: the verbs - which tense is appropriate - and when to use "on" instead of "nous"

When using avoir as the auxilliary verb in the passe compose, I thought that the past participle had to agree with the direct object... so in the previous exercise there was:

"Nous avons nouri nos chiens" ...are not les chiens the direct object of the verb in that sentence?

"il a fini ses devoirs" ...are not les devoirs the direct object of that sentence...?

...I guess I have got something very wrong here... grateful for any guidance...

In the sentence below, I used l'imparfait of pouvoir (pouvait) rather than the passé composé. I would have thought l'imparfait was appropriate as it describes actions that were repeated in the past i.e. they organised meetings that were repeated over a period of time.

Can someone please explain why the passé composé is used here? Choosing when to use l'imparfait or le passé composé does not seem to get any easier!

I haven't done one of these exercises for a long time and, while some of my translations may not have been exactly what was in the model answers, I compared my proposals with the answers, I search around for why I was right or wrong, and then I learned from that in-depth research.  I don't see how every possible answer can be cited, unless you want an machine-driven algorithm in which case go to DeepL or Google or Reverso.  This is a fantastic resource!

Your one of the writing practice exercise suggests the translation for "and the accordion used to touch her chin" as "et l'accordéon lui touchait le menton !"

In the lesson above there is no example of usage of pronouns such as "lui".

That is why I am lacking this concept.

Please add this part also above and let me know so that I can enhance my knowledge on the same.

The correct spelling of connaitrais, should be connaîtrais, yes?
