Conjugate faire in le passé simpleSo in working a C1 kwiz, this question arose: «Ce jour-là, tu me fis le plus beau cadeau. (That day, you gave me the most beautiful gift.) HINT: Use le Passé Simple of 'faire'» The translation is shown: «you gave me. . . » ---> while I understand the lesson was on «faire» in the passé simple, it seems that the translation would be along these lines: --> That day, you MADE me the most beautiful gift. Is there a use of «faire» that means «give or gave»? Merci en avance.

Include other formsI feel this lesson should include or at least link to other forms like fais-moi confiance or ne lui fais pas confiance. Trust no one! Don't trust your friends! I think we use those more.

Would someone be able to explain the need for the ne in that sentence? Or link to the lesson that explains it? I'm stumped.

(it was translated as "Mathilde put the car away before it rained.")

Question needs rewording Nous sommes professeurs.'' Who can be speaking? Alain and Georges, Georges and Fiona, Fiona and Judy, Fiona, Georges. Why can't *Fiona* or *Georges* be speaking on their own? e.g Fiona is talking to a group of people about herself and another person. She says "Nous sommes professeurs". Likewise for Georges. The sentence does not require two people to be speaking simultaneously."

Changement de programme [Subjonctif] quiz. My answer was marked incorrect. I don't understand why.

I wrote '`a moins que Bruno ne vienne ...' vienne is the correct form of subjunctive and 'ne' is needed after the conjunction '`a moins que'. I have read in lesson notes that the 'ne' can be dropped in a dialogue. However, in the short quiz which followed that exercise, 'ne' expletive was before the subjunctive verb in a dialogue. I don't believe I was wrong with my form of the subjunctive nor the 'ne' expletive.

Question on "would" from a past perspective

I am wondering how to form a statement using would (le conditionnel?) from a past perspective. As in "I spent a lot of time deciding what I would eat for lunch today". Could someone tell me if the below is correct? Apologies for the spelling/accent errors as I am typing on a computer where i don't know how to type those, but i've tried to approximate the critical ones below.

j'ai passe' beaucoup de temps `a decider quoi je mangerais pour dejeuner aujourd'hui.

Or

maybe i should say "quoi j'allais manger pour..."?
