In the question "Nous ________ les cheveux.” (We brushed our hair) (HINT: Conjugate "se brosser" (to brush) in the compound past (Passé Composé)), why is “nous sommes brossé” preferred over “nous sommes brossés”?

I think that “we” is plural, so the correct response should be “brossés” with the “s”.

This doesn't come very naturally to me at all. How do I know which verbs should be followed by "à" and thus use lui in these affirmative commands?

Hello, Can you please help me with this: "près de Madagascar et de l'île Maurice.". Why is it not "du île Maurice" ? because "de+le" = "du" isn't it?

I would have thought the pastry would have been called "le gâteau" not "le biscuit" --the former is a cake, the latter is a cookie, and a bûche is a kind of cake.  Also, do some recipes for la bûche call for spreading ganache inside?  I have only read recipes that call for a whipped cream sort of filling, saving the ganache for the exterior.  I'm about the make my annual bûche de Noël and wish it were as simple as this version!

Should it not be 'avant qu'on ne parte'?

At the beginning of broadcasts, I've heard things like, "Bonne journée. Nous sommes le mercredi 24 janvier 2024. Commençons notre programme."

Is the "Nous sommes" used formally, or conversationally as well?" Would a teacher say "Nous sommes..." rather than "C'est..," for example? Or if a friend asked for the date, would it be odd to say, "Nous sommes le 24 janvier?
