In a search to demystify the difference between savoir and connaître, I stumbled upon an article earlier that suggested something along the lines of "use connaître when you've had prior experience with something" with one of the examples being "vous connaissez [name of place]?" meaning have you been to [name of place]? instead of asking whether the person is aware of the existence of said place. The second example was "Je connais Brad Pitt"; a statement that implies that one has met Brad Pitt before rather than plainly saying that they know of the existence of him. Since this lesson hasn't mentioned anything regarding what I've said above, can anyone enlighten me on this matter?

"Claire knows the shop closing time" requires "connaitre", but "Claire knows the shop closes at midday" requires "savoir"? Are they not both facts (connaitre)? Or both stating knowledge of a fact (savoir)? What's the difference? Very confusing!

In the examples, to know a recipe uses connaître. When used in the quiz for pumpkin pie recipe, connaître is wrong and saviour given as correction. Please elucidate.

In the test the correct answer is "I can do it". Based on my current knowledge, it literally means "I know how to do it"

Is this just a case of creative license in translation?

Tu ne sais pas qui l'a fait.  You don't know who did it.

and

Je ne sais pas ce qui se passe.  I don't know what's going on.

We have here QUI as who and QUI as what.

How do I know to use QUI rather than QUE for what

The two sentences below look almost exactly the same, in both 'they' know a fact (what time the shop closes).

Presumably, then, its just that in the 2nd sentence the verb is followed by a noun and that alone determins that 'conaitre' should be used, (and it's nothing to do with 'they' knowing a fact)?

Ils savent à quelle heure le magasin ferme. They know what time the shop closes.

Ils connaissent l'horaire de fermeture du magasin.
They know the shop closing time.
