What is the difference between 'd'en face' and 'en face'?
This question relates to:French writing exercise "The worst holiday [US: vacation] of my life!"
Asked 3 years ago
Hi Tom,
I understand that Le mur en face --> The wall opposite
and Le mur d'en face --> The opposite wall
What did you guess is the difference?
Does this help?
Jim

That seems like a nice explanation, Jim. I wonder how you would describe it grammatically?

Yes! I'm thinking that d'en includes the preposition de which translates to "the wall (from) opposite"
Does that help?
Jim.
