Hi Frank,
In a British English context a local news paper shop may be referred to as "a (the) corner shop" whether it is situated on a physical corner or not.
I don't know of the actual newspaper taking such a term as local unless it features exclusively the local area news.
Hope this answers your query?
Jim

Hi Frank, I don’t think that “le journal du coin” sounds right for the local paper, but maybe “le journal régional” might be an acceptable alternative to “le journal local”.
