Et ce mardi-là, il devait la retrouver pour boire un verre…

In the B2 writing challenge "Pre Date Stress" the translation of "And that Tuesday, he was supposed to meet her to have a drink..." is "Et ce mardi-là, il devait la retrouver pour boire un verre… ".Other alternatives are offered but all use devoir.Couldn't this one also be valid: "Et ce mardi-là il était censé la retrouver pour boire une verre"as well as the possibility of using "prendre une verre" instead of "boire une verre"?If so should the excercise be updated?

Hi David,

'Aller prendre/boire un verre ', both mean to go for a drink.

Il devait la rencontrer = He was to meet her

Il était censé la rencontrer He was supposed to meet her

Nuances I know, but if you are still unhappy, use the Report it button in your correction board for Aurélie to answer you.

Bonne Continuation!

... un verre (le verre is masculine).

Sorry. I had it right in the first reference but not in the second and third.

Now waiting for a reply on the points made on censé/devait and prendre/boire.

Thank you Cécile.

It seems that you agree that my answer which used "censé" was, if anything, more correct than the suggested answers which used "devait". Which is great since when I first learned the word "censé" with the Lingvist app the meaning was "supposed to" which I found really hard to remember since I do not associate it with any root verb etc.

I wont worry about it.

Buy my experience in using the Report button in the quizzes is that I am generally told that the person answering is not a language expert and that I should bring it up in the Discuss context of a lesson.
