en vs la

According to the rule analysis, using en for feminine countries and a for masculine countries, why is the correct answer for the question "la?"  Je vais visiter la France cet ete.  Should the sentence not be Je vais visiter en France?

Hi Kenneth,

Just to add to Maarten's answer, you cannot say -

visiter en

You visit something. i.e.

j'ai visité le Louvre

You will use aller with different prepositions for, to visit countries

e.g.

aller en France

aller aux Baléares

aller à Cuba

Hope that helps!
