Elle est or C'est?

Could someone explain the rule for describing who someone is; i.e. why does 'she is my wife' translate as c'est ma femme? - "it is my wife'!

Thanks.

Hi Alan,

Take a look at Darell's answer to a similar question -

https://kwiziq.learnfrenchwithalexa.com/questions/view/confused-about-c-est-when-taking-about-people

and the lesson in question -

"C'est" vs "Il/Elle est" to say it is/she is/he is in French

Bonne Continuation !

Il/elle est: describe someone or something

C'est: identify someone or something

...substantially
