duquel vs dont

dont has been used like this i think or am i know totally confused?

There are verbal and prepositional phrases with "de". 

Verbal phrases are those that involve a verb, such as parler de, etc. In verbal phrases, the indirect object (what follows de) is replaced by "dont".

Je parle de mon livre. -- I'm talking about my book.
Le livre dont je parle.... -- The book about which I am talking...

Prepositional phrases have a preposition (or preposition-like phrase) followed by "de". These  require duquel and its cohorts.

Je suis assis sur la table. -- I am sitting on the table.
La table sur laquelle je suis assis... The table on which I am sitting...
