Difficult to get what the child is saying here

Hi.

I tried some A1 listening today after long time. I was shocked that I couldn't catch what the child was saying. When said says - Le mélange mousse...i heard something entirely different. Wonder if anyone else faced this. I worry about my listening skills a lot anyway.

Bonjour Radhika,

Maarten is right! We also agree with the fact that the sentence is a bit difficult so we've changed the way it was written to make it easier.

From my experience as a French teacher, the listening skill is one of the hardest. Lots of practice is necessary in order to master this skill. But, the more you do, the better you get! On a personal level, my kids listen to a lot of French songs (not nursery rhymes) at mealtimes/whilst cooking together, not only do they find the sounds fun and interesting, but they also end up learning entire phrases and sharpening their French listening skills without realising it (especially my youngest who's the most reluctant to even try and speak French).

Radhika,

I wouldn't beat myself up too much over whether a young child's speech was easily understood or not. (Having said that, the child's diction is still better than that of many native speakers !)

I think that particular short sentence is a little unclear, but the snippet is also a bit difficult to ' hear ' because it is not necessarily anticipated. It is easier to recognise in the context of following the beating of the egg/milk mixture, and after realising that 'mousse(r)' is used as a verb. With the broken speech pattern of the dictations, and no vision of what is happening, it is not necessarily straightforward.

Thanks Maarten for your encouragement. I was hoping for a response considering there was no question. Will up my listening practice. Giving my B1 delf this December
