With Mac, hold the letter down until a bar pops up with the letter's accents, each numbered. Still holding the letter down, type the number, and the accented letter will appear in your text.

I am not sure how to make Windows accents short of having to call up the character map, which is a big nuisance. I know that there are keyboard shortcuts though. Search on the web for the shortcuts.
