très -- very
trop -- too (much)

That said, trop is often used in spoken French to stress something even beyond using just "very". For example:

Vous êtes très gentil. -- You're very kind.
Vous êtes trop gentil. -- You're too kind. Note that even in English, "too" is often used to mean "very", like in this example.

Vous parlez trop vite. -- You're speaking too fast. Here, trop actually means "too much"; you're asking the person to speak more slowly because he's speaking too fast. So, you see, it very much depends on the context in which trop is used whether it is a lot of a good thing or too much.
