"De" article only in "nombreux"?

Question

So I got a little confused: Why is there no "de" before "quelques", "plusieurs" etc? Why doesn't the rule of "de" before adjectives that precede nouns apply here?

Copying from the lesson:-
"If we had to establish an order of quantity, it would go like this: 
a couple / some /a few
several   
many / numerous
quelques 
plusieurs 
de nombreux (m)   de nombreuses (f)  "
As I understand it for quelques / plusieurs they already take the sense of "some / a few / several" whereas "de nombreux" takes the sense of "numerous"

Quelque(s), etc. are indefinites. Nombreux is just an ordinary adjective.
