Why is 1/3 not un troisième? If 1/5 is un cinquième?
For "I believe that it would enrich my life" the only correct alternative given for "believe" is "je pense". Is there a subtle reason that "je crois" would not be as appropriate in this particular context?
(Also there is a rogue full-stop that has snuck in between "horizon" and "en ouvrant" in the second sentence of the exercise)
In this paragraph, the English sentence was "My CV SPOKE for itself" but the French was in the present tense. Mon CV parle de lui-même. Is this a mistake or am I missing something?
Why is this marked wrong?
I answered "Nous avons peiné a" rather than "avions du mal à". I think struggle is the better translation.
The lesson states that “dont” is a preposition, but I have always thought of it as a relative pronoun?
Thank you!
Bonjour,
I am not sure if the correction below is right. Could you please explain?
Il est ________.It's ten twenty-three.(HINT: Use the "12-hour" clock)dix heures vingt-troisdix heures vingt-trois du matin(this was my answer)One of the examples given is:
- T'appelles-tu Martine?
- Is your name Martine?
How would one say "Is my name Martine?"
My ear says that the kind of inversion describe in this lesson ("M'appelle-je Martine?") isn't allowed in French for the first person singular. But I could be wrong.
In any case, it'd be helpful to add either an example, or a specific note that this isn't allowed, to the lesson. Thanks!
Does this mean you can't use quand in the present?
I have noticed that all the phrases use the pronouns, "le or la". As in:
"La fille dont le frere travaillait avec moi..."
"Francois, dont j'ai rencontre la femme..."
Is there any problem with saying the following for example?:
"La fille, dont son frere travaillait avec moi, a gagne le prix"
"La femme, dont son fils j'ai rencontre la semaine derniere..."
"Amelie, dont ses enfants sont venus chez nous, sont bien eleves"
