I've read through alot of the Q&A below. I still dont get it. Why does the title of this lesson say that J'allais + infinitive expresses the near future. To me, and looking at the examples in english eg. she was going to call ...., is that not the recent past? Merci.

Please Kwiziq do not be like Duolingo and be inflexible with the words allowed/considered correct. Faire de la soupe et préparer de la soupe are synonymous and both should be correct.

is the near future in the imperfect the same as the subjective?  To translate something such as I "was/were going to" seems subjective to me. 

Mildly thrown off, and it's actually only related somewhat, but one of the questions I was asked was "You were going to make soup, but then..." and what threw me off was I attempted to use cuisiner instead of faire, as I thought that's what you used in regards to making food, but the answer used faire? Or is that just specific dishes and general types of food use faire?

I read this phrase somwhere: <> also the same tense (i.e. futur proche dans le passé?

What confuses me here is that this translates in English literally as: "This week, the museum announced that the art was going to be restored from next February." But that's absurd because then we have a nuance of the past (the museum announced; art was going to be restored) as well as future (from next February).

Wouldn't the simple futur proche tense suffice here since we are talking about the future?
