Who Vs whom. This lesson gets confusing because of the incorrect English usage of whom.

This lesson gets confusing because of the incorrect English usage of whom. The lesson actually states 'Whom does someone meet?" That is incorrect. it is "who does someone meet?" or " you went to meet whom?"

Just google who vs whom. plenty of explanations there

Ian,

the use of whom in  ‘Whom does someone meet ? ‘ is correct grammar, but not what would typically be said in my part of the English speaking world nowadays, where ‘whom’ is virtually extinct.

See example in link below : ‘ Whom do you believe ? ‘ and the section on interrogatives with who or whom.

Reverse the question to confirm that ‘whom’ is not incorrect, as it is the object and ‘someone’ is the subject “Someone meets her/him/them/us/whom ? “

At the end of the linked article the widespread use of ‘who’  in everyday speech and writing is also discussed.
