When does beaucoup need a 'de'?

In the phrase "J'aime beaucoup ce nouveau bijou" why doesn't beaucoup need a "de"?

Hi Sarah,

These are two different words entirely -

beaucoup a lot

beaucoup de = a lot of

So you could say for instance :

J'aime beaucoup avoir beaucoup de monde à la maison = I love ( like a lot )  having a lot of people at home

Hope this helps!

Hi Sarah, literally she's saying i like this new jewelry and not i like a lot of new jewelry, which will not be right for this listening exercise considering she's appreciating the beautiful jewelry.
