what to call "new year's eve"

what to call "new year's eve"

I just asked my French son in law if he or his friends or family ever call it "Saint Sylvestre", and he says,

"non on ne dit jamais ca, on dit juste le nouvel an."

Is it really very common to say Saint Sylvestre?  Could that be regional, eg in Paris as opposed to southern part of the country where he's from?

Bonjour Crai,

Thank you for your question! You son-in-law is correct that "Nouvel An" is far more common. "Saint-Sylvestre" is rather old-fashioned and more commonly used in the media/newspapers. We've now amended this exercise accordingly.

Merci de votre contribution et bonne journée !
