Use of lui as subject pronoun

Question

Can someone explain the use of lui as the subject in the quiz about taking
care of a baby and passé composé?

The answer was” lui est reparti”. I wrote “il est reparti” after lui, thinking lui was only there for emphasis.

I’ve never seen lui used as the subject pronoun. Am I missing something?

I couldn’t find report it, but tech support directed Me here. I’ve since sent in a screenshot which pinpoints the quiz problem.
