To crush an army

I was wondering if anéantir could be used in this context as a possible substitute for écraser.   Thanks.

Bonjour Frank,

"Anéantir" means "to defeat" but in a much stronger way (to annihilate) than "écraser". In this context, it is not the best option.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

I chose anéantir because in English annihilate is closer to crush than defeat.  I probably should just have used écraser but was trying to expand my vocabulary.   Next time, I will use the the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) approach.  Thanks, as always, for your explanations.
