The opposite of arrière?
So if devant is the opposite of derrière, what is the opposite of arrière?
This question relates to:French lesson "After/before versus in front of/behind (French Prepositions of Time and Place)"

Bonjour Dzoan,
I had to look this one up in the Collins-Robert Dictionnaire to ensure what I was thinking was, indeed, the antonym of arrière. There are two possibilities listed:
avant
devant
So dependent of the context of how the word would be used, it could be either.
Bonne chance.

Bonjour Dzoan
Avant is the opposite of arriere in the automotive industry anyway. So when you get a control tecnique test on you car it might say pneu av dr or ar ga for front right and left rear tyres. Despite these being spacial and not temporal descriptions!

Another example is the famous Citroen B11 of 1949 known as the Traction Avant because it has front wheel drive.
