The meaning of "Filou"

Merci pour cette histoire ! je l'adore. I enjoyed getting to know your cats, Jasper and Filou. As far as I am concerned, a house is not a home without at least one cat. (Our kitty is named "Louis" and we use the French pronunciation, "Louie".)

I really love the name, "Filou" and am just curious as to the meaning.

Merci beacoup !

Hi Shamrockhill,

I am pleased you enjoyed the reader I wrote about my cats.

The term 'filou' in French is an affectionate name you would use for a naughty child for instance and is mostly often used with 'petit' . In Brit English, the term 'rascal' is the most accurate.

You might be aware of the yogurts named 'Petits Filous' the following page seems to agree with my translation.

People often think in the UK  that I named him after a yogurt but the word 'filou' came before the yogurt! and Filou was a little rascal right from the start when I adopted him aged 3 months old.

Jimmy, not sure what you are querying in your question in this thread. If you clarify, might be able to respond further.
