Subjunctive of "detester"
This question relates to:French lesson "Aimer que/détester que + the subjunctive mood (Le Subjonctif) = to like/hate that in French"
Asked 1 year ago
Hi Michael,
If I have understood your question correctly you are questioning examples like -
Nous ne détestons pas qu'elle soit là = We don't hate (the fact) that she is here
The subjunctive applies to the second clause verb and not the first and as Maarten says it is in the present indicative which is correct.
Bonne Continuation !

Michael, “nous ne détestons pas” is in the present tense - the subjunctive is required in the verbal expression of the relative clause after ‘aimer que’ or ‘détester que’.
Have another look and you will see that neither aimer nor détester are conjugated in the subjunctive form in any of the examples.
