Remarquer et constater

I used constater to say I noticed the strange transaction. It’s not offered as an alternative to remarquer. Can you tell me if it is wrong to use it in this case.

The two verbs -- constater and remarquer -- are synonyms with one little difference in flavor: constater refers to an undeniable fact whereas remarquer is more about one's perception of reality.
