hi. is there a subtle difference between the words 'pétantes' and 'pile'? Should you use one in certain circumstances?

Hi Megan,
You could say -
9 heures pétantes ( langage familier)
or
9 heures sonnantes
9 heures tapantes
But
9 heures pile ( on the dot) is probably the most common.
Hope this helps!
