In general, although the lists are very useful, I find it better to try to learn the preposition use in context with the verb and construct as encountered, rather than by rote.
There is not any definitive rhyme or reason that can be applied to guessing which verbs require a preposition, which of those need à or de, or the smaller number that take either - usually with a change in meaning, although there are several where it does not change the meaning significantly !
(Some verbs require other prepositions and I have included a link to more information on that also)
