Dans la phrase: “Je vais aux États-Unis.” pourquoi la lettre “s” est prononcée dans les mots “aux” et “États”, mais pas dans le mot “vais”?

Bonjour Jaap,
Here there is no liaison between "vais" and "aux" because it would sound very strange seeing the following two liaisons that you noticed. All in all, it would not sound great in French!

you normally link an S to the next vowel so it would be vaisaux etatsunis like they’re the same word if that makes sense?
