Passé composé

Why sometimes in passé composé the conjugated verbs in plural end with '' s '' and sometimes don't end with an '' s ''.

Ex: '' Elles sont devenues méchantes à cause de toi.''

Ex: '' Ils ont vendu (vendre) des croissants dans la rue.''

When to put an '' s ''?

Thanks in advance :)

Bonjour,

Le Passé Composé can be used with two 'auxiliaries', être or avoir. The agreement of the past participle is different when using one or the other.

The links below will help you with your question:

Agreeing past participle with subject's gender and number with (+ être) verbs in Le Passé Composé

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée!

The lesson you linked gives the answer for most cases of passé composé with the auxiliary avoir (the second example you note). You also need to look at the lessons on passé composé for verbs conjugating with auxiliary être (the first case in your example), where rules of agreement apply. There is also a special case for avoir in passé composé preceded by a direct object (about B2 level or so, I think).
