This is how clueless I am. At reading the sentence about the missing ring I wondered at first; "Did he steal a ring from her?" It took this 61 year-old a minute to grasp that he took the ring in order to get her ring-size! (I must admit, I would never have thought of that!) Gary

Hi Gary,
I think (and hope) that you are right and that romance isn't dead ...
The fact that she says at the end -
"J'ai vraiment hâte d'être à demain", means to me that she thinks he is trying to match the ring size. I rather think that otherwise, she would probably have said -
Je vais appeler la police...
I like your cynicism, Paul!
Hope this helps!
Or maybe, Gary, he IS just using his French charm to steal jewellery (maybe even to fund his taste in expensive restaurants). I look forward to hearing about who she is with in next year’s St Valentine’s exercise. I doubt the football-loving Stéphane will be making a come-back though. He’s done his dash!
Good point Paul!!! You are hilarious! Even though I'm clueless, I am romantic enough to hope that the theft was done for the purpose of engagement, not embezzlement! ;)
Lol!! I'm a woman and I couldn't understand the last part either, I also thought he was a thief but I didn't understand why she was looking forward to the following day. LOL LOL
