Hi Tony,

On the whole mou and molle will be after the noun when they mean soft ( the opposite of hard) -

un fromage mou = a soft cheese

le beurre est devenu mou =the butter has gone soft

un matelas mou = a soft mattress

un fromage à pâte molle = a soft paste cheese

une balle molle = a soft ball

Rarely 'mol' is used before a noun starting with a vowel and a mute -h :

se laisser aller avec un mol abandon = to let yourself go with abandon

Occasionally 'molle' will be used in front of the noun to mean 'weak'.

Il faisait preuve d'une molle repentance/ discretion  He showed a weak repentance/ discretion
