mais on entend encore

mais on entend encore

It's very frustrating, even after listening to it 20 times and with the volume turned up, I hear, "...mais longtemps encore très souvent les chansons à la radio...".

Lewis, not sure what to say - it is certainly frustrating and we all go through it, regularly !

I hear ‘ mais on entend encore…’, and no suggestion of an ‘l’ sound in there to suggest ‘longtemps’.

Technical issues with connections may be a reason.

Otherwise, I wouldn’t get too hung up on this one misheard phrase. Listen to lots of spoken French - at a comprehensible level (meaning around 80% or so understandable), and progress does follow  (frustratingly slowly).

Hi Lewis,

Just to add to what has already been said, the delivery is very slow and the diction is clear.

I am wondering if your problem is the liaison between on and entend which is creating problems?

The two words run into each other to become  onNentend

This liaison is one of the compulsory ones so a French person will never say -

on // entend

Bonne Continuation !

Second Maarten's take on this. The optional liaison between mais and on is missing, which makes it a bit harder to separate out the verb entend. Still, patience and persistence are the key. There's a great podcast that I listen to sometimes. It's called "Little Talk in Slow French". Look for it on Spotify.
