Answer given: I haven’t eaten any meat for ten years. Why wouldn’t the answer simply be “I haven’t eaten meat for ten years”? Thanks in advance for input.

It could be either.
Both of the English sentences translate to the same French sentence, and both are everyday English expressions. Unless there was incorrect marking on a question, no problem with either translation being chosen.
There is often more than 1 way to translate sentences between 2 languages, as is the case here.
