I believe there is an issue with the recording on the last sentence, I can report it to support if you like but thought I would post it here first. The sentence is Mes progrès sont encourageants !
The issue is around the sont word. I should have just thought about what made sense instead of just what I could hear, but it just threw me and I wouldn't wnat it to affect other beginners.
Dictation exercise A1
I have discussed this with the French team and the deliberate gap between the sont and encourageants was to avoid the liaison which might have taken place at a higher level.
We have also followed Maarten's suggestion with regards to 'progrès' in the vocab list.
Hope this helps!
Hi Martin, I listened to the exercise, and everything sounds fine to me. What specifically threw you about the word sont.
Martin - was it that you could not hear the word itself, or that you were initially unsure which homophone of 'sont/son' was used, or even selecting between other near-homophones (to non-native ears anyway) such as 'sans' etc ?
The liaison between 'sont' and 'encourageant' is optional.
Perhaps it would help, especially at this level, to have 'les/des progrès' listed in the vocabulary to know, rather than, or at least in addition to, the less commonly used singular form 'un (le) progrès' ?
Thank you all for replying, sorry it's been a delay replying. I seem to be having issues with getting notifications when I have replies even though I check the box to send me notifications! I have reported this to support.
Anyway, so when I listen to it again I am still finding that there is a repeat on the sont word. So what I hear is Mes progrès sont ont encourageants !
Obvious I am only a beginner and if you all hear it as normal then it is fine and is just something I need to learn but I just thought I would raise it as it does sound like a "stutter" in the recording. Thanks for your time though and that you Marrten for such a great response - extremely insightful.
