Incorrect Answer on lesson quiz

Question

I got the question Mathilde a rentré la voiture avant qu'il ne pleuve. wrong because I chose "Mathilde returned the car..." as the "correct" answer was "Mathilde put away the car..." But in English, saying you put away a car sounds like you put a small object away. Since a car is so big, you would return it to its proper destination, which is why I chose this answer. I feel that both these answers could technically be correct.

I don't see anything wrong with 'put away the car' - standard English, at least in some parts. Can't say I agree about using 'return the car' in this context either. Regional differences perhaps.

On the explanation of choice of translation based on 'size', a completely new one to me, and I have had a lot of years to come across it ! I have known people to 'put away' a semi-trailer, or 'return it TO ...."
