In a quiz, I wrote: Sarah et moi va voir un ami ... I had written allons voir, but changed it to use the conjugation for on...va. Why wrong?

Sarah et moi = nous, hence allons. In this case the implied pronoun is never on, always nous. If you wanted to use on, you'd have to be explicit: Sara et moi, on va voir un ami.
