Hi Kevin,
In everyday speech, in a family situation, you would rarely use the 'nous' form but 'on' instead.
The inversion of subject and verb with 'on' is given as a possibility although rare again as it sounds more formal too.

In face-to-face contact perhaps it is more clear to signal a question with qu'est-ce que ... To use the inversion question construction is perhaps best used in the written word as I understand it.
