Ensuite vs puis

Can puis be used instead of ensuite. As this was not presented as a correct alternative.

In this exercise, you could use either ensuite or puis, I can add it as a possibility if you like?

To my understanding "puis" expresses a sequence where one thing follows another.

Whereas "ensuite" expresses something happening afterwards and would be expressed by "et puis"

I hope an expert will comment, I'm not an expert.
