Bonjour Jasvin,

Both "au" and "du" can be used here, even if they'll be translated the same way

Je suis arrivé troisième du (de + le) marathon = I came third in the (of + the) marathon

Je suis arrivé troisième au (à + le) marathon = I came third in the (at + the) marathon
