why is et elle adore les livres and not des livres? is't it loving just books and not some specific "definite" books?

Hi Arjun,

With the kind of verbs like -

aimer, adorer, préférer, détester, etc.

you will use the definite articles le/la/les 

e.g

Je préfère le judo au karaté = I prefer Judo to Karate

J'aime le chocolat dans toutes ses formes = I love chocolate in all its forms

J'adore les couchers de soleil = I love sunsets

Je déteste les devoirs = I hate homework
