Dans vs en

Bonjour! When would one use dans for travel that is enclosed (i.e. bus, metro) vs using en? Thanks!

Bonjour Rebecca,

You can use "dans" + [means of transportation] when you wish to express you are inside one.

Take a look at the lesson below which explains this grammar point:

Differences between French and English usages - Using "dans" with streets and means of transportation (French Prepositions of Location)

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

Just to exemplify:

Je suis dans le bus. -- I am in the bus (i.e., inside)
Je voyage en bus. -- I travel by bus.
